What is the VivaScope®?
Rapid Cellular Imaging to Assist Physicians in Clinical Assessment of the Skin
Lucid, the world leader in vivo reflectance confocal microscopy, pioneered itsdevelopment to assist physicians in clinical assessment of the skin. VivaScope® confocal imagers provide dermatologists the highest resolution noninvasive means available today to display cellular resolution images of the skin. These images are useful in medical research and routine examination of the skin in clinical settings.
Using advanced laser technology, VivaScope imagers can produce optical images of skin lesions with incredible cellular resolution, enabling medical professionals to see cellular morphology — in real time, in living tissue.
The VivaScope® 1500 is Lucid’s second-generation in vivo confocal imager, designed for routine clinical examinations and also medical research applications. The VivaScope 1500 offers clinicians the ability to create precise, cellular resolution mosaics, or blocks of images. It is designed to allow doctors to non-invasively visualize the cellular morphology of a patient's skin as a step in forming an accurate clinical judgment of a patient's condition.
The VivaScope® 3000 is the world’s first handheld confocal imager. Like the VivaScope® 1500, it noninvasively images living tissue with cellular resolution, and provides the same image quality found in the 1500. The handheld configuration of the 3000 is light enough for routine use and can easily access those areas of the skin that may be difficult to image with the 1500.
The VivaScope® 2500 is designed for excised tissue specimens without the need for sectioning, or staining. A typical application is Mohs surgery, where cellular resolution images can be provided as soon as a cassette containing the surgically excised tissue is loaded into the imager.
Images captured with a Lucid VivaScope® can be transferred using VivaNet®, Lucid's Internet-based, DICOM-compatible HIPAA compliant medical image server. VivaNet® can connect dermatologists and other medical specialists to enable near-real-time collaboration and consultation among practitioners.
